Key Points

  • The bond between parents and children is inseverable because children are the flesh and blood of their parents and the substantiation of their love, their lives and their hopes.

  • God’s relationship with us as our parent is similarly inseverable; he cannot give up on us. He must save all people, without leaving anyone behind.

  • Because in freedom Eve established a fallen love relationship with Lucifer, fallen people can be restored by following God’s word and in freedom putting God first in their lives and engaging in principled true love

  • That true love is more powerful than Satan’s unprincipled love and capable of overcoming any temptation.

  • Restoration is, in part, coming to know God’s heart through studying his word and to know the Holy Spirit through jeongseong and prayer based on that word.

  • Even if our external Abel, who may not know the Principle, abuses his position, we are to eliminate our fallen nature through serving him, thus restoring the right of the elder son.

  • But we are also to recover our heartistic relationship with each other and restore the heart and unity of siblings.

  • We must hear the voice of our Abel spirit mind centered on God’s word and our original nature to bring our body as Cain to submission.

  • In any relationship between two people, the one who is closer to God is Abel.

  • If we treat everyone as our Abel and obey and submit to them, we can create harmonious Cain-Abel relationships with our brothers and sisters and we will be blessed.

  • The one who is humble and serves first is Abel.

  • We can tell who is Cain or Abel by serving.

  • If we serve people, they can change because of our attitude, and our character will also develop.

  • We must love our enemy in order to protect our heart from a blow from him, to diminish our fallen nature, to strengthen our spirit and upgrade our spiritual level.

  • Genuine true love can render an enemy powerless.

  • Bringing our fallen nature to surrender starts by regarding others as being better than we are.

  • God will trust the person who is recognized and praised by at least three secular people.

  • If we serve three people and set them up as mediators, we will come to know God’s will, to separate from our fallen nature, and to discover our original self and our original nature’s desire.

  • The mind that is moved after hearing God’s word is the voice of Abel, that is, of our original nature.

Today I’d like to talk about “The Path of Life for All Humankind” from True Mother’s Anthology, Book 2.

Before that I would like to show a photo.

Yesterday, I had breakfast with one New Jersey church (family) in my room. They are Eric & Erinah Ntamack and children, Eric (Jr.), Eyram, and Ean. Their family is so beautiful, especially Eric, the first son. He has such a filial heart. I was really touched by his heart. They are a beautiful family.

Every day now I have that kind of food ministry. Even though it is very short, it is incredibly beautiful. At least I can have one meal together with them. I can come to know who they are. I think Heavenly Father provides us this kind of beautiful opportunity to know our brothers and sisters.

<This speech was given by Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon between February 11 and May 29, 1999 at events promoting the Global Expansion of True Families in Japan, the United States and around the world.>

God and humankind have gone through the course of history in the same situation, pursuing the same goal. As a result of losing Adam and Eve, God has walked the most difficult path, a path that no one would choose to walk. Human beings too have walked this inevitable path of destiny brought about by the Fall, always hoping for the coming day of salvation. Humankind's most fervent hope is to become sons and daughters of God. This is because no relationship is more intimate than that of parent and child. We were born when the love and life of our parents converged, and thus we represent their ideals. However, words like love and ideals do not make sense in reference to just one person. Life comes from a love relationship between a husband and wife; it cannot be created by one person alone. When God created human beings, He created us to be the object partners of His own love, life and ideals. This is amazing and incredible.

If I did not exist, my parents' love would not have become visible. The love, life and ideals of my parents exist in relation to me. I am the fruit of my parents' love, life and ideals. That is why the child's position is the most precious of all. It is remarkable that we started from a point where our parents' love was our love, our parents' life was our life, and our parents' ideals were our ideals. That is why parents look at their children and say, “These are the sons and daughters we love.” Parents sense, realize and know that their children are the substantiation of their love, their lives and their hopes.

Not a single day can pass without parents missing their beloved children. Even if it has been only a few minutes since they last saw them, they want to see them again. If someone were to try to sever this relationship, they would find it impossible to break, for children are the bone of their parents' bones and the flesh of their flesh. If their children disappear, parents feel as if they want to die. Their ideals are fulfilled when their children succeed.

Humankind's most fervent hope is to become sons and daughters of God. This is because no relationship is more intimate than that of parent and child. We were born when the love and life of our parents converged, and thus we represent their ideals.

When God created human beings, He created us to be the object partners of His own love, life and ideals. This is amazing and incredible. If I did not exist, my parents' love would not have become visible.

Relationships. I came from God. Human beings came from God.

God and human beings have a parent-child relationship. If this is really real, then it is really amazing. If God is really my parent and I am really a child of God, this kind of relationship of love, heart and blood lineage and ideal is truly amazing. How many of us really know (that) the relationship between God and human beings is really a parent-child relationship.

God and human beings have a parent-child relationship.

Even if it has been only a few minutes since they last saw them, they want to see them again and again. If someone were to try to sever this relationship, they would find it impossible to break, for children are the bone of their parents' bones and the flesh of their flesh. If their children disappear, parents feel as if they want to die. Their ideals are fulfilled when their children succeed.

This kind of nature is incredible. Without their children the parents feel as if they want to die. This kind of feeling, an inseparable relationship, this kind of nature, this character of love comes from where? God has this kind of nature and character. It is amazing.

Because God and human beings have this kind of bond of heart between parent and child, no matter (whether or not) some miserable thing happens, God cannot give up on human beings no matter what. If humans commit sin, how can God as a parent give up his children? He cannot give up.

Even on an external aspect, if God were to give up on human beings, it would leave the stains of the perfect God having failed in the history of His creation.

If he gave up on human beings, then he is not a perfect God. No matter what, he has to restore human beings. If God gives up, he is not a perfect God. Then everybody can accuse him.

From that perspective, He must save all people, without leaving anyone behind. That is why we need to know that God’s salvation is “total salvation.” No matter how much we commit sin, we are nonetheless his child.

When I realized that God’s salvation is total salvation, my tears came down. It doesn’t matter if someone is black, yellow or white, any nationality, we need to see through God’s eyes. Everybody no matter what is a child of God. He had to save everybody without exception.

When I realized God’s salvation is total salvation, ... (we) can love any human being, any nationality, any color. If we truly understand that God is our parent, then God’s salvation is total salvation. This is amazing. We need to understand. “If you believe in Jesus, you go to the Kingdom of Heaven; if you do not believe in Jesus, you go to hell,” he is not that kind of God. (Such a god would) not be a parent. If he only chooses someone who believes in him and allows him to enter the Kingdom of Heaven and gives up those who do not believe in God, God is not that kind of god.

We need to understand that God is a parent. He cannot give up anyone because he is our parent. The parent’s heart wants to embrace each child. This is the heart of the parent. We need to understand this point.

LIVING DIVINE PRINCIPLE: The Human Fall 28: Freedom, the Fall and Restoration

• To summarize, freedom cannot exist outside the Principle. Freedom is accompanied by the responsibility laid out in the Principle, and Freedom pursues accomplishments that bring joy to God.

• Free actions generated by free will bring about only good results.

• Therefore, freedom cannot have caused the human Fall.

• Rather, the human Fall was caused by the stronger power of unprincipled love, which overwhelmed the freedom of the original mind.

• In truth, human beings lost their freedom as a result of the Fall.

• When Eve was tempted by the angel, she became confused emotionally and intellectually. Although the freedom of her original mind induced in her a sense of foreboding, because the power of the love between her and the angel was stronger, she crossed the boundary and fell.

• Conversely, since fallen people can also relate with God in freedom, if they follow the words of truth, form a common base and engage in give and take with Him, then the power of principled love can revive their original nature.

Let’s study Father’s word.

Understanding Freedom, the Fall and Restoration

• Since Eve was created to interact in freedom with angels, she naturally related with Lucifer. Yet when Eve and Lucifer formed a common base and engaged in give and take action, the power of the unprincipled love which was generated caused them to fall. Therefore, fallen people have to go through in the direction opposite to it in order to restore their original nature.

• Since even fallen people can also relate with God in freedom, if they follow the words of truth, form a common base and engage in give and take with Him, then the power of principled love can revive their original nature.

Even if it is unprincipled love, since the power of that love can surpass the power of the principle and the power of freedom, we cannot overcome it unless we possess a love greater than unprincipled love.

Then what kind of love is that love? If we have give and take with God’s love, centered on our original mind, we can overcome any unprincipled love. So, we must overcome everything with the true love we gain from forming a give and take relationship with God. Therefore, in our life of faith, we must put God as top priority. Only then can we overcome and dominate any temptations.

We cannot overcome any unprincipled love with our power alone. We need to “borrow” power from God. We need to relate to God. When we relate to God, we can feel God’s incredible love and power, and we can overcome any unprincipled love. Without give-and-take with God, we cannot gain any power and love from God.

The More Deeply we Understand the Principle, the More Our Zeal is Strengthened

• Due to the Fall, human beings became ignorant of God and His Heart. This ignorance has rendered the human will incapable of striving toward goals which are pleasing to God. As God has given “spirit and truth”(meaning internal knowledge and external knowledge) to fallen people according to the merit of the age in the providence of restoration, their heart, which yearns for the freedom of the original mind, has gradually been revived. In step with this progress, their heart toward God has also been restored, strengthening their zeal to live according to His Will.

The course of the providence of restoration is ultimately the course of the restoration of heart, and the course of the restoration of heart is ultimately about how to experience God’s heart. The greatest ignorance is not knowing God’s heart. Therefore, someone who knows God’s heart and (has)  experienced it will never fall.

Therefore, how can human beings who fell into ignorance know and experience God’s heart? First, we must know God’s Word. When we study God’s Word, it can depict well what kind of providence God has led and what kind of love God has for human beings.

Therefore, we must always study God’s Word and live a life of experiencing the Holy Spirit through prayer and jeongseong based on the content of the Words which we were moved by.

TODAY’S YOUTH MINISTRY: Listen to the Voice of Abel

1. In Adam’s family, if Cain stood in a position representing the parents and had cooperated with and loved Abel just as his parents do, Cain would have actually received more love from God than Abel did. Not only that, Cain would have stood more in the position of a filial son than Abel. If he had loved Abel, he never would have heartistically left the position of the elder son.

All human beings must eliminate their fallen nature. But through whom do we eliminate them? We must eliminate them through Abel. Then, in the individual position, what is Abel and Cain? My physical mind is Cain. But that doesn’t mean that my mind is absolutely Abel. The mind that is moved after hearing the Word is Abel. That is why we need to listen to the voice of Abel through the Word. That is, we must listen to the voice of our original nature. The mind centered on the physical mind is the mind of Cain. We need to listen to the voice of Abel centered on original nature and bring our body to submission. If we do not hear the Word, since we do not know which is Abel’s mind, we cannot hear the voice of Abel.

Who is Cain and who is Abel? The one who receives God’s love is Abel. And the one who is closer to God and the central figure is Abel. Of course, there is (also) a Cain and Abel relationship centered on external positions and organization (as well).

For order to be formed in the world of faith, the Cain and Abel relationship centered on external positions and organization is also very important. Even if the central figure of our organization does not have the conditions to qualify as Abel, we still need to respect and recognize their status and position.

But more important than anything else is the Cain and Abel relationship from the heartistic aspect. Since the secular world only places importance on the external Cain-Abel relationship, when superiors use their position and power, they easily violate the hearts of subordinates.

In order to pass through the world of Heaven and the world of Cain, we must completely pass through the internal Cain and Abel relationships. Externally, the reason we have Cain and Abel relationships is to eliminate our fallen nature through restoring the right of the elder son, but internally, it is for brothers and sisters (to) recover the heartistic relationship, realize oneness of heart, and restore the heart of siblings.

All human beings must eliminate their fallen nature. But through whom do we eliminate it? We must eliminate it through Abel. Then, in the individual position, what is Abel and Cain?

Our physical mind is Cain. And our spirit mind, which is the mind of our spirit self, is Abel. But that doesn’t mean that our mind is absolutely Abel. The mind that is moved after hearing the Word is Abel. That is why we need to listen to the voice of Abel through God’s Word. That is, we must listen to the voice of our original nature.

The mind centered on the physical mind is the mind of Cain. That is why we need to listen to the voice of Abel centered on original nature and bring our body to submission. If we do not hear the Word, since we do not know which is Abel’s mind, we cannot hear the voice of Abel.

Serve All People As Abel

2. The next stage is the Cain and Abel relationship in human relationships. In the Cain and Abel relationship with my brothers and sisters around me, I must always treat myself as Cain and serve all people as Abel. So, as Cain, I have the responsibility to obey Abel and make myself submit to him. Even if I encounter people around me who are not like-minded and have a lot of shortcomings, I should not say, “How can that person possibly be my Abel?” but just serve them well. If I serve even people who I do not get along with as Abel, they will grow to be Abel. That person changes due to my attitude. Even if they are unable to fulfill the role of Abel, if I regard them as Abel, my character will develop. Therefore, those who regard all people as Abel will eventually receive great blessings from Heaven.

In human relationships, when two people meet, one person is in the Cain position and one is in the Abel position. When we compare between two people, one of them will be closer to God. That person is Abel.

In order to harmoniously form Cain and Abel relationships with our brothers and sisters around us, if we always treat ourself as Cain and serve all people as Abel, then we will pass through wherever we go.

So, as Cain, I have the responsibility to obey Abel and make myself submit to him. Even if I encounter people around me who are not like-minded and have a lot of shortcomings, I should not say, “How can that person possibly be my Abel?” but just serve them well.

Even if that guy is not a great guy, he may look like Abel but treats his spirit(?) as “my Abel,”(?) the one who is humble and serves first is Abel.

To see if a person is Cain or Abel, if we try serving him, we can immediately tell. We can immediately tell if they are closer to God or if we are closer to God. Even between husband and wife, when we serve each other we can immediately tell who is Abel.

How do we tell if someone is Abel or not? Through serving him. Then we know if he is higher than we are or we are higher than he is. Before judging someone, if we serve someone our original mind will tell us immediately “He is your Abel; he is your Cain.” Through serving we can know everything – whether that person is higher or lower than we are, whether he can become my Abel or my Cain. We know everything through serving. But without serving and simply judging, “You are my Cain; you follow me,” then it is difficult to distinguish Cain from Abel.

If we serve even people whom we do not get along with as Abel, they will grow to be Abel. Even though in the organization a person may be our Abel, internally he  may not really be our Abel. But if we serve him as our Abel, he will grow because of us: “Wow! He is in Cain position, but he serves me so much!” Then he may reflect about that. Then he can grow up to be Abel. That is why the spirit of serving is really amazing!

That person can change due to our attitude. Because of our attitude, our leader can change and become a true Abel. Because of our attitude, spiritual(?) attitude, really serving him, even though he does not look like our Abel, our leader, but I treat him (that way). “You are my leader; you are my Abel,” and truly serving him, he will want to change his attitude, “I really want to be an Abel,” and he may ask, “What shall I do?” It is up to our attitude. According to our attitude, our Abel can change and grow up. That is the spirit of serving.

Even if they are unable to fulfill the role of Abel, if we regard them as Abel, our character will develop. Therefore, those who regard all people as Abel will eventually receive great blessings from Heaven.

We need to treat everyone as Abel.

Even trees, according to original nature, “All things ... are better than I am.” Everyone.

How to Discover Your Original Self

3. Why are we told to love our enemies? The reason I have to love my enemies is for the sake of my heart rather than for that enemy. When I hate others, my spirit becomes bad. And when I love my enemies, I will never stand on Satan’s side. So, bringing my fallen nature to surrender starts by regarding others as being better than me. If I am recognized and praised by people of the world, it results in being recognized and praised before God as well. God will also trust the person who is recognized and praised by at least three secular people.

So, if I serve at least three people well in my life, set them as mediators, love them, and go before God, I will realize what God’s will is. Try to put this into practice in your own life. When you obediently submit to two or three people, you will come to realize what your original nature’s desire is. Then you will discover your original self. To separate from your fallen nature, you have to be able to distinguish your original nature from your fallen nature. But the way to distinguish that is when I serve centered on two to three people, then I will be able to distinguish what is original nature and what is fallen nature. This is a life of faith.

Why are we told to love our enemies? The reason we have to love our enemies is for us to not fall when we suffer a blow from the enemy. Rather than for the sake of our opponent, the enemy, we have to love our enemies in order to protect our heart.

When we hate others, it is part of human beings’ original nature for our spirits to become bad and for our hearts to become dry and barren.(?)

But interestingly, when we love our enemies and pray for them it is not easy, “Heavenly Father, give me power to love my enemies. Without loving my enemy, I have to pay indemnity. No matter what, in order to protect myself, I need to love my enemy.” Even though we may struggle in the beginning (and find) it difficult to overcome, if we continuously pray, finally our heart is overcome, and when we love our enemy, we gain spiritual strength and our spiritual level is really upgraded. Loving our enemy really upgrades our level of love. Through loving our enemy we can remove our fallen nature. Our heart is really strange. When we see someone and speak ill of him(?), our heart becomes very bad. This is human nature. In order to protect ourself, we should not hate anyone.

When we love our enemies, we will be upgraded to a higher level of the spirit world and our fallen nature will gradually be diminished. And when we come to love our enemies, we will never stand on Satan’s side. Even an enemy feels powerless in front of genuine true love.

The left-hand thief really accused Jesus, but when the right side thief looked at Jesus, Jesus prayed for his enemies with genuine true love. That really touched the right-hand thief. He confessed, “You are my lord.” The quality of genuine true love is really amazing.

So, bringing our fallen nature to surrender starts by regarding others as being better than we are. If we are recognized and praised by people of the world, it results in being recognized and praised before God as well.

God will also trust the person who is recognized and praised by at least three secular people. So, in our life, we must train ourself to serve at least three people well. And if we set those three as mediators, love them, and go before God, we will realize what God’s will is.

When we truly serve people, God will tell our original mind, “This is God’s will.” Then we will know what to do and where to go. When we serve people, God gives us incredible results(?): how to distinguish good and evil, where to go, how to love people. It is really great.

When we obediently submit to two or three people, we will come to realize what  our original nature’s desire is. Then we will discover our original self.

To separate from our fallen nature, if we sincerely serve two or three people, we will discover what is original nature and what is fallen nature. This is a life of faith.

Today I spoke about listening to the voice of Abel. The mind that is moved after hearing God’s word is the voice of Abel. That is why we need to listen to the voice of Abel through God’s word, that is, we must listen to the voice of our original nature.
