The Model Family: A Family of Three Generations - April 20, 2023
Key Points
The family achieves its original state of the perfection of Adam, Jesus and the Lord of the Second Advent when three generations representing the past, present and future live in true love, trust and mutual respect as a true royal family dwelling in God’s royal palace of peace under his kingship and embracing the spiritual and physical world.
Religion is the root of culture. Specifically, Christianity is the root of the culture of democracy characterized by brotherhood.
To embrace and unite the cultures of democracy and communism we must create a culture of God's will and heart rooted in True Parentism.
If we can resolve internal problems by applying the standard of restoration through indemnity on the individual, family and every level in order to control our body and achieve unity, we can resolve external problems and create the conditions to conquer the world.
When families apply this restoration standard, they unite and God intervenes.
When religions apply this principle and unite, politics will soon follow their lead.
All political issues in the United States corresponding to the human body will be automatically resolved if the religious issues corresponding to the mind are first resolved.
In order to restore the fall and to eradicate our fallen nature, we must serve our parents and parents-in-law, our spouse and our children “like God.”
To succeed in our life of faith, we need an Abel, even a difficult, young or inexperienced one.
In order for a wife to become a loving mother and have a stable mind, she must serve her parents and in-laws as Abels.
She should think that this is the purpose of her marriage.
“If we naturally subdue our parents-in-law with love, it is nothing to subdue our husband.”
If husband and wife each serve their parents-in-law well, they can eliminate their fallen nature, learn to attend God and have a smooth conjugal relationship.
When a couple attends their parents-in-law, they become careful with their speech, “lose their assertion,” and“find a place in the heart” (of their parents-in-law).

Yesterday, I had breakfast with two families. This couple is Akira & Hiromi Kato. Hiromi Kato is doing a good job for ACLC. Both of them are working very hard.
(And here) are Yoshinao & Etsuko Nukui, and their children, Kento and Yoshiki. Two children, and (they have) other children. They have grown up very well, and they can speak Japanese very well. Of course, English. I think these two boys have great potential to become great leaders. I encouraged them to join GPA. Yoshiki is seriously considering it.
Today I’d like to talk about “God's Ideal Family and the Kingdom of the Peaceful Ideal World I” from True Mother’s Anthology, Volume 2.

When seeking after the lost original family, you should set out from the position of the perfected Adam, the position of the perfected Jesus, and the position representing the perfected Second Coming of the Lord. God will dwell in such a family. That family would be one of three generations—grandparents, parents and children—living in harmony. Parents and children live in service and attendance to the grandparents as the historical root of the ancestors. The family sets the pattern for living together in harmony. The family wherein parents and children love and respect each other, husband and wife are grounded in mutual trust and love, and brothers and sisters trust and rely on each other, and all live together as one, is the model ideal family.
This means that you need to establish a true family wherein the stem of true love emerges from the root of true love and bears the fruit of true love. In such a family the root of history is alive, and the root of the kingdom of heaven extends into it. It is in such a family that the kingdom of heaven on earth takes root. It is also where the everlasting root of kingship is firmly planted. The roots of the past, present and future are represented by the grandparents, parents, and grandchildren, respectively. The root of the past represents the spirit world; the root of the present is the palace representing the world today; and the root of the future establishes the grandsons and granddaughters as princes and princesses. Through such a family we erect a palace of peace, representing the harmony of the two worlds, the spirit world and the physical world.
Let’s summarize:
What is the Position for the Family to Return to Their Original State?
1. It is the position of Adam's perfection, the position of Jesus' perfection, and the position of perfection representing the Lord at the Second Advent.
Can you imagine the value of the original family? The position of Adam’s perfection. We need to be that kind of family. (Also, we need to attain) the position of Jesus' perfection, and the position of perfection representing the Lord at the Second Advent.
2. It is the position in which three generations of the family, grandparents, parents, and children, live together.
Father emphasized three generations frequently because the structure of the Kingdom of Heaven is based on three generations of the family.
3. It is the position in which we live with our grandfather as the root of our historical ancestors.
Do we really respect our grandparents? What is our relationship with our grandmother and grandfather? Father said that grandparents are the root of our historical ancestors.
4. It is the position in which parents and children live together with love and respect, husband and wife based on mutual trust and love, and brothers and sisters trusting and relying on each other.
5. It is a position to find a true family in which the stem of true love grows from the root of love and bears the fruits of true love.
Where can we bear the fruit of true love? In the family.
6. It is a position in which the roots of the kingdom of heaven on earth are planted and the roots of God's kingship that will continue forever settle there.
Where can we settle? In the family. The roots of the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth begin where? The family.
7. It is a position in which the roots of the past, present, and future are represented by grandparents, parents, and grandchildren, and the roots of the past represent the spirit world.
Family is everything.
8. It is a position (of) the royal palace that represents the present world, with the present root.
Our family is the royal palace.
9. It is a position in which the grandsons and granddaughters of the future roots are set up as princes and princesses to build a palace of peace representing the two worlds, the spirit world and the physical world.
Our family represents the palace of peace, right? It represents the two worlds and is between the spiritual world and the physical world.
We need to know the position of the family to return to its original state.
LIVING DIVINE PRINCIPLE: Eschatology 5 - Human History is the History of the Providence of Restoration1 - The History of the Development of Cultural Spheres
• Human history can be seen as the history of the providence through which God has been trying to save fallen people and work through them to restore the original, good world.
• Let us examine in various ways the idea that human history is the history of the providence of restoration.
• First, let us examine the history of the development of cultural spheres.
• Through religion, fallen people mired in ignorance have sought to meet God by ceaselessly striving toward the good. Even though the individuals, peoples and nations which championed a certain religion may have perished, religion itself has survived.
• Religion has endured through history.
• In its history, China has experienced many cycles of the rise anc fall of dynasties and numerous transfers of political power, yet the religions of the far east-Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism-have continued to thrive.
• In India, the religion of Hinduism; in the Middle East, Islam; and in the history of Western Europe, Christianity have continued to flourish.
• Many religions have left their mark on history. Among them, the religions with the greatest influence formed cultural spheres. The major cultural spheres which have existed at various times in world history numbered between twenty-one and twenty-six.
• With the flow of history, lesser cultural spheres were absorbed by, or merged into, the more advanced spheres. Through the evolution of cultural spheres, as they were buffeted by the rise and fall of nations, four great cultural spheres have survived to the present day: the East Asian sphere, the Hindu sphere, the Islamic sphere and the Christian sphere.
• The current trend has these four spheres forming one global cultural sphere based on the Christian ethos.
• This demonstrates that the essence of human history has been the restoration of one united world.
Let’s study Father’s word.
Culture has been Developed Through the Religious Foundation
<18-9> When we survey human history, we can see that culture has been developed through the religious foundation. In other words, the reason why culture developed is that the cultural sphere of the age based on the religious foundation has moved toward one direction throughout a long historical process. Then, why did such a thing happen? That’s because there is a need to achieve the one purpose which God’s Will aims for. Religion has played an important role in striving to achieve the Will. The deeper the history of a religion is, the more contents it has which surpass the cultural world. The religious standard of the Will is inevitably implicated in the purpose of the will that humankind is aiming for. Then, based on which content is contemporary democracy made up of? That is none other than the ideology of Christianity. Communism has the opposite ideology.
When we survey human history, we can see that culture has been developed through the religious foundation. Therefore, it is religion that plays an important mission in fulfilling God's providential will.
Therefore, the deeper the history of a religion is, the more contents it has which surpass the cultural world. The religious standard of the Will is inevitably implicated in the purpose of the will that humankind is aiming for. Then, (what) content is contemporary democracy made up of? That is none other than the ideology of Christianity. Communism, however, has the opposite ideology.
Culture developed through a religious foundation. In order for God's will to be fulfilled from now on, we must create a culture of heart centered on God's will and heart. In order for the culture of heart to take root, a tradition centered on the words of True Parents must take root.
The culture of hoondokhae is very important. Do we have the culture of hoondokhae in our family? Second is the culture of character or personality. Finally, we need to raise up the culture of heart through the culture of character. Based on that, we can expand to our neighbor, tribe, nation and world and become a beautiful heavenly culture.
Today's idea of democracy is centered on Christianity. Democracy is brotherhood. Now, we must become one centering on True Parentism, which can unite communism and democracy.
In Order to Handle the External World, the
Internal Problem Must be Solved First.
<18-71> If externally, one global cultural sphere is formed and internally, human beings control their body centered on their mind, the standard which is able to conquer the world all at once will be established. However, the internal problem is not easily solved. There needs to be a process of historical development in order to solve the internal problem. Only when the internal standard is completed and conquers the external standard, can it be solved. While we have been passing through the historical process, God has been preparing an internal world as well as an external cultural world. Therefore, if just the internal standard is completed at some point in time, it can absorb the external society in an instant. Ultimately, the development of the external world today is just one of the ways that helps God’s providence of restoration to be accomplished.
This is really important content. We can learn from Father’s word. This is one of Father’s top secrets.
Externally, God has carried out the providence of forming a world cultural realm. On the other hand, internally, centering on the human mind, He has been carrying out the providence of completely occupying the human body.
The important thing is that if there is a way to solve internally, human beings (inability to) control their body centered on their mind, the standard which is able to conquer the world all at once will be established. However, the internal problem is not easily solved.
So how can we solve our inner problems? It requires a historical development process. In other words, the process of restoration through indemnity is necessary. Therefore, if the standard for restoration through indemnity is established from the individual level to the cosmic level, the way to conquer the external standard will be resolved in an instant.
That is why True Father paid indemnity from the individual level to the family level, from the family level to the national level, from the national level to the world level, and finally to the cosmos. Once he had paid all the indemnity conditions, then at any time based on that foundation the world can be united because he has already internally solved the problems.
That is why, if only the internal standard is completed, it can absorb the external society in an instant. We must first solve our internal problems, including personal problems, family problems, and problems of any group or institution, as well as the problems of the country and the world.
So, to solve your children's problems, especially second and third generation and the youth generation, we need to know how to solve the problem. “Oh, my children this and that, have all kinds of problems, aren’t much connected to the church.” Father gave us a very clear answer. To solve our children’s problems, we must first solve the problems with our spouse. If there is beautiful unity and harmony between husband and wife, (there is) great potential to solve our children’s issues and problems (as well).
Therefore, the inner problem must be solved first. The same goes for the life of faith. The focus of problem solving should be on the inside first. When religions are unified according to this principle, the world of politics is automatically unified.
Father often said that political issues are not the issue. If there is unity among religions, we can solve political issues any time.
All political issues in the United States corresponding to the human body will be automatically resolved if the religious issues corresponding to the mind are first resolved. Therefore, our interreligious movement and ACLC movement in the United States are very important.
If all the religious leaders stand very strongly based on absolute faith toward God, the external issues are nothing according to our Divine Principle.
The development of the church, for example, is the same principle. The development of the church is brought about according to how much the church leader and family members become one internally and heartistically.
A family in which the body and mind become one, the husband and wife become one, and the parents and children become one always develops and God is bound to come. The same goes for quality and quantity issues. If quality is good, quantity will automatically follow. If the quality of love is excellent, people will flock to it.
Since I came to America, why did I initiate Morning Devotion? If internally everybody unites together centering on God’s word and (we) internally (invest) our jeongseong, gradually we can (resolve) all second and third generation issues and our church issues. How much are we internally united? We really love God and True Parents and support God’s providence. If internally we are not united and criticize and blame each other and we are divided into spiritual groups and children’s group, can you image that? This problem comes from where? It is internal. That is why when we resolve internal issues centered on God’s word, then we can solve any issue.
That is why whenever there is a problem, we should not deal with the problem directly. We need to find out what the internal issue is. The main problem is internal.
Therefore, the development of the Unification Church in the United States ultimately depends on the quality of love of our blessed families. If the quality of love of our family members increases and we unite, progress cannot be avoided.
Wow! Today Father’s guidance is really important.
TODAY’S YOUTH MINISTRY: How to Get Rid of Fallen Nature in the Family
1. The way to cast off your fallen nature in the family is to first serve your parents-in-law or physical parents. By attending your parents, you can eradicate your fallen nature. Next, you must serve your spouse to get rid of the fallen nature. Lastly, you can cast off your fallen nature by serving your children like God. Within the family, through this trinity, you can clear up your fallen nature. In particular, women have no way to rid themselves of their fallen nature unless they attend their parents-in-law. With a heart of service, one's own fallen nature is eliminated.
However, no matter what family you look at, there is no family that does not experience conflict between daughter-in-law and mother-in-law. Those who know the Principle should think that serving parents-in-law is the course of restoration through indemnity. A woman becomes a different person by subduing her parents-in-law naturally. A person who fails to attend their parents-in-law will have an ambiguous relationship wherever they goes. If a woman gets married and does not serve her parents-in-law, where can she clear up her fallen nature? How can you fix it when there is no superior?
Because of the Fall, Adam's family came to form a trinity centered on Satan. In order to restore this through indemnity and eradicate the fallen nature, we must restore the relationship centered on God and the trinity.
We must restore the fall of Adam's family starting with our own families. Therefore the way to cast off our fallen nature in the family is to first serve our parents-in-law or physical parents. By attending our parents, we can eradicate our fallen nature. Next, we must serve our spouse to get rid of the fallen nature.
Lastly, we can cast off our fallen nature by serving our children like God. Within the family, through this trinity, we can clear up our fallen nature. In particular, women have no way to rid themselves of their fallen nature unless they attend their parents-in-law.
The quickest way to get rid of the fallen nature is to serve others. However, the act of serving must begin with the nearest family. When the heart of service is established, one's own fallen nature disappears. However, no matter which family we look at, there is no family that does not experience conflict between the daughter-in-law and the mother-in-law.
Those who know the Principle should think that serving parents-in-law is the course of restoration through indemnity. A woman becomes a different person and changes her lineage by subduing her parents-in-law naturally.
A person who fails to attend her parents-in-law will have an ambiguous relationship wherever she goes. If a woman gets married and does not serve her parents-in-law, where can she clear up her fallen nature? How can we fix it when there is no superior?
All our fallen nature came from the family, right? Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, all fallen nature comes from the family. How can we resolve our fallen nature? We need to serve the closest person in our family. Where can we remove our fallen nature? In the family because Adam and Eve created fallen nature in the family. That is why we need to serve parents, our spouse and children. There is no other way.
Of course, we need to get out and go to church and (have a) Cain and Abel relationship. But the fundamental issue is in the family. How can we remove our fallen nature? With the closest person – between husband and wife, parents and children, among brothers and sisters. This is the best way to remove our fallen nature.
The Purpose of Marrying off Women
2. In your family, you must serve your physical parents and parents-in-law as the subject of faith, that is, Abel. In the life of faith, one must serve one's own Abel well because the fallen nature cannot be cleansed without Abel. Even if you come to church, if you don't serve Abel, that person is a spectator. If a woman does not live with her parents-in-law in the family, it is like a married couple living in the wilderness.
We are truly pitiful because we do not know this basic law of restoration through indemnity. Without the subject of faith and the subject of attendance, how can our minds be stable? If a wife is a person who leads a life of faith, she must decide that she should serve her parents-in-law even if she is greedy on purpose. She should think that the purpose of her marriage was to serve her parents-in-law. She has to think that she got married off because of her parents-in-law. She should think that she came to visit her parents-in-law, not her husband.
Wow! Beautiful mindset!
Among the secular people, there are many people who succeeded when they challenged their vision and goals that they had set up by using a person they wanted to emulate as a role model from a young age. Our course of faith needs someone who can be that kind of role model. We call this kind of person Abel in the principle.
Abel is very important. I really appreciate True Parents. They gave me a beautiful role model, my spiritual father, Rev. Yo Han Lee. I love him! I learned so many things (from him). I am sorry to say, maybe I love Yo Han Lee more than my own parents. I spent so much time with him and learned from him.
In the future I want to be that kind of minister. He truly loved God, True Parents and each member. “This man is really crazy!” When I was young, I wanted to be this kind of minister. He was my role model.
That is why when we set up our role, it is very important, someday we can become that kind of person. For me, that standard is still far away.
In order for wives to become loving mothers in the family, they must serve their parents and in-laws as the subjects of faith, in other words, as Abel. In the life of faith, one must serve one’s own Abel well because fallen nature cannot be cleansed without Abel. The reason Heaven gave us Abel is to train us.
“Oh, I am an older person in the church. This is a young Japanese guy, how can I discuss this and that, you know? I don’t have a proper Abel to attend. Dr. Yong and Father always talk about the Principle and about serving Abel. I cannot find any Abel in my life of faith.”
(We should) not think this way. Even though God has offered(?) someone as Abel, let’s say he is very young, a second generation, and becomes a church leader or national leader, whatever. As long as we serve him as our Abel, relate to him, respect him, even though he is younger than we are, even though we may not be able to get an answer from him because he does not have as much experience as we do, if we report and have good give-and-take with him and respect him, God will be responsible for the rest.
Someone came to me and confessed at the breakfast table, “I want to confess, but how can I confess to a young person?” I told him, “Why don’t you trust that person? Heavenly Father appointed him as Abel. Just report to him. Even though you don’t like it, you need to trust that he is your Abel. God appointed him. Then if you have a respectful attitude regardless of age, then God will forgive you because of your attitude. Your attitude and mindset are the right attitude and mindset. (But) if you have preconceptions because of his youth or (lack of) experience, this is your problem. Your attitude cannot be forgiven.”
The Kingdom of Heaven does not care about age. Someone who is younger than us may be spiritually higher than we are. Why do fallen people always judge others according to experience, knowledge or age? This is the wrong concept. We are fallen people.
If one says, “I don’t have an Abel,” what are we talking about? Father said we should love our children as God. We need to respect our children.
God cannot always send us good Abels. Heaven tests us by sending an Abel who is sometimes difficult to serve. Even in terms of the principle of restoration through indemnity, Cain has no way to come before God unless he goes through Abel.
Even if we come to church, if we don't serve Abel, (we are) a bystander. If a woman does not live with her parents-in-law in the family, her heart cannot settle down. (She and her spouse are) like a married couple living in the wilderness.
Without knowing this basic law of restoration through indemnity, it is difficult to grow in faith. Without the subject of faith and the subject of attendance, how can one's mind be stable? So, if a wife is a person who leads a life of faith, she has to decide that she should serve her parents-in-law even if (they are?) greedy on purpose.
In order to raise a filial heart, there must be parents, who are the subject of filial heart, and there must be Abel. How can filial piety be raised without parents and Abel?
Mother said, “You need to be filial sons and daughters. Filial heart is very important.” But if we don’t have a subject partner, Abel, then how can we raise our filial heart? Without serving parents (and Abel?), it is nonsense.
She should think that the purpose of her marriage was to serve her parents-in-law. She has to think that she got married off because of her parents-in-law. She should think that she came to visit her parents-in-law, not her husband.
If a woman has that kind mindset, wow! She can melt her husband’s heart!
If you Serve your Mother-in-Law, Your Assertiveness Disappears
3. You have to serve your parents-in-law well so that the conjugal relationship becomes stable. If you naturally subdue your parents-in-law with love, you will be able to subdue your husband. Therefore, if a couple lives without their parents, they will live without Abel. So if the relationship between husband and wife goes wrong, it is easy to run into a dangerous situation. Sometimes it's downright dangerous. If married couples meet horizontally and leave the family without attending their parents, the word service to the other person will not come out. It is easy to flow into a horizontal relationship with each other. Sometimes couples hurt each other by talking carelessly. However, if one serves their parents-in-law, they cannot do as they please. A person who attends their parents-in-law loses their assertion. So, if the daughter-in-law serves her parents-in-law, the daughter-in-law of that family will find a place in their heart. Families that do not serve their parents-in-law and leave the family right away can easily be in jeopardy.
In Korea, there are many daughters-in-law who are in conflict with their mother-in-law. If there is a conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, we should instead, be grateful. We must think that God has given us an opportunity to cleanse ourself of our fallen nature, and overcome any difficulties.
As a daughter-in-law, we have to serve our parents-in-law well so that the conjugal relationship becomes stable. If we naturally subdue our parents-in-law with love, it is nothing to subdue our husband.
On the contrary, a man must serve his father-in-law well and subdue him naturally. Husbands and wives should impress the other's parents with service and love rather than their own parents. Only then will their own fallen nature disappear.
Serving parents vertically in the realm of life is, on the other hand, training to attend God. If this vertical training goes well, the relationship with the horizontal spouse will go smoothly.
Therefore, if a couple lives without their parents, they will live without Abel. So if the relationship between husband and wife goes wrong, it is easy to run into a dangerous situation. Sometimes it's downright dangerous. If married couples meet horizontally and leave the family without attending their parents, the word service to the other person will not come out.
To receive salvation through attendance means that we must first serve our parents or parents-in-law in the realm of life to rid ourself of the fallen nature.
“Attendance! It is the era of attendance!” Attend whom? Invisible God? Who? In our family we should attend our father and mother, and attend our parents-in-law, attend our spouse, attend our children. This is the era of attendance ... in the family!
If we live with our parents, even if we live as a married couple, we must be careful. Otherwise, it is easy to flow into a horizontal relationship with each other.
Sometimes couples talk carelessly and hurt each other. However, if they serve their parents-in-law, they cannot do as they please. A person who attends their parents-in-law loses their assertion.
So, if the daughter-in-law serves her parents-in-law, the daughter-in-law of that family will find a place in their heart. Families that do not serve their parents-in-law and leave the family right away can easily be in jeopardy.
People say this does not make sense in Western culture. I am telling you that Father said the structure of the Kingdom of Heaven (is like this). We need to believe it and practice it. (Ours is) horizontal culture. We need to (have) vertical culture.
