The Model Family: A Family of Three Generations - April 11, 2023
Key Points
When all the members of a three-generation family are engaged in giving and receiving true love, that is a joyous and harmonious family that can unite the community, tribe and even the society, nation and world.
To bring harmony in our family we must completely empty ourself for the whole, deny ourself – forgetting our position and living as a servant – and be willing to make any sacrifice, even to live as a mute.
We cannot nag, criticize or warn but must live for the sake of the family with the heart of a parent.
We need to take responsibility for the shortcomings of family members, protect them and help them without speaking.
Family harmony is the subject partner and all the family members are the object partners.
The traditional view of salvation is focused on individual salvation, tends toward selfishness and not caring about others, and does not consider God’s original purpose.
God’s Plan for Salvation is Family Salvation.
The family is the basic structure and the smallest unit of the Kingdom of Heaven.
The Kingdom of Heaven is based on the perfection of the Four Position Foundation, the Four Great Realms of Heart and the Three Great Kingships.
The messiah came to realize the ideal family.
For people who received the Blessing, Heaven has already begun centered on their family.
When we realize a family, we have already escaped Satan’s dominion on the family level.
We can only enter heaven as a family with all of our family members when the three generations have become one and achieved the four great realms of heart and the three great kingships.
True Father knows about God’s bitter sorrow, han, and pain better than anyone else.
We can only fulfill God’s Will by knowing His Will, sorrow, pain, and han.
We must always live, thinking about how to realize God’s wish. That is Hyojeong.
God’s first wish is for everyone to become filial sons and daughters.
All we can take with us to the spiritual world is our true love, not money, honor and power.
We are the substantial form of God’s wish, which is for us to bring his true love, life and lineage to fruition in our spiritual selves. As filial sons and daughters, that should be our one wish, too.
Along with the extinction of the physical body, all the wealth, power, or honor that we may have had will dissipate. So we cannot cling to these things that simply “rot and disappear.”
We are taking responsibility for our eternal life by investing our whole heart and strength and by offering sincere devotion and jeongseong with tears during our short life.

Yesterday, I went to Lake Superior in Minnesota with Rev. Takami, Rev. Ha and some members of the Minnesota Family Church. The lake is the largest freshwater lake in the world. It is like an ocean. It is a huge lake. It was a very good experience with the members. You can see how beautiful it is. Thank you Jean(?) Couple, Kevin and blessed families. (Here we are) in front of the lake.
There is a Korean War Veterans Memorial nearby Lake Superior, and we prayed together there. I heard that True Mother made some donation for that.
We also visited the Gooseberry Falls. It was a beautiful experience.
Today I’d like to talk about “The Model Family: A Family of Three Generations” from True Mother’s Anthology, Book 2.

By the same token, there are three levels in a household. When three generations live together in harmony as one, that household takes on a form of a true family, which Heaven desires. In this family, the grandfather, grandmother, father and mother would take the top position, you as young couples would take the center position and below you your sons and daughters would find their places. Living together with your grandparents and parents gives you the opportunity to take care of and show love to your elders. Then how is it that harmony in the family becomes the root of success in all things?
The family is a microcosm of the society, nation, world and, further, the universe. That was how God created it. People were created to spend the first years of their lives in a family where they receive true love. Harmony in the family is possible only when all the members of the family are engaged in giving and receiving true love. Only when all angles in the relationships within the family, from the east, west, south, north, upper, lower, left, right, front and back, are positioned for joy and harmony can you succeed in all the endeavors you pursue in the community. How can you expect to find joy and reasonable success in your work or at school if your family, which is the root and starting point of everything, is suffering from discord and conflict?

Therefore, harmony of the family is the key point for all things to go well. Furthermore, it is the core factor in uniting the society, nation, and world. One who harmonizes the family can unite their own community and tribe. And they can also play the central role in the peace of their nation and the world.
Today I want to share some very important things. I study God’s word a lot and also read the (testimonies?) of all the senior brothers and sisters. I want to share (from these and) my own experience.
True Parents were talking about harmony, right?
Then how can we realize harmonious families? (Dr Yong)
How can we realize a harmonious family? Between husband and wife, between Cain and Abel, parents and children, among brothers and sisters?
1. First of all, we must completely empty ourself for the sake of the whole. If we think of harmony as the subject and the family becomes harmonious, we need self-denial that is determined to live and willingly submit to any sacrifice.
(We must) completely deny ourself. We need to think that we are not the subject, our spouse is not the subject, our children are not the subject. The subject is harmony because harmony is God. Centering on harmony all family members need to deny themselves, completely empty themselves. Otherwise, I am telling you, we cannot create harmony. We should be willing to submit to any sacrifice, make any effort and any kind of condition because harmony is like God.
\2. Just as salt dissolves in water, the being called “me” must completely disappear. We must never reveal ourself. We can only give out a salty taste like how salt enters water and gives it a salty taste. We must live, completely forgetting our position as a father or mother. We must live, completely forgetting our position as a husband, wife, child, and brother or sister and live only with the thought of living for the sake of harmony for the whole.
“I am your mother.” “I am your father.” “I am your central figure, OK?” “I am your husband.” “I am your wife.”
We can’t claim(?) our position at all. We should forget(?) our position as parent or spouse or child and empty our mind. Just as salt dissolves in water, we should completely disappear and never reveal ourself. Only our taste is showing.
We should contribute(?) centered on harmony. Harmony is the key. In order to create harmony, we can make any sacrifice. We need to have this mindset. Otherwise fallen husband and wife cannot create harmony. In my 47 years experience since I joined the Unification Church, in the family, in society, in any conflict, it is the same thing.
3. For that to happen, sometimes, we will need to live as a mute. Live in silence without a word. We must have the thought that if our family can be harmonious if we became a mute, then we will live that way for even 10 years or 20 years.
We create problems because of talk, talk, talk. Without any talk for three or four months, just serving, I guarantee we will create harmony. Why do we create disharmony? Because of talk.
4. We can never assert ourself. We must also not nag. Don’t even warn others. Only think about serving others and showing through our actions. If we try to save face as a father or mother, disharmony will come upon our family. We must completely think that we are living in our home as a servant.
5. All the while, internally, we need to think of endlessly living for the sake of the family with the heart of a parent. If family members have shortcomings, we need to think of taking responsibility for that and protecting them and help them without speaking.
6. If we live in this way, I am telling you, our entire family can become harmonious. What we need to know clearly is that harmony is the subject and that we are the object partner for that harmony, and we need to think about paying any kind of sacrifice.
Today I have shared my 46 years since joining the Unification Church. This is the only way we can create harmony in the family, in our community, in our church.
LIVING DIVINE PRINCIPLE: Chapter 3 Eschatology 4 - The Providence of Salvation
God’s Work of Salvation
• God intended to create a world of goodness and experience from it the utmost joy; yet due to the human Fall, the world came to be filled with sin and sorrow.
• If this sinful world were to continue forever in its present state, then God would be an impotent and ineffectual God who failed in His creation. Therefore, God will save this sinful world, by all means.
• To save a person suffering under the yoke of sin means to restore him to his original, sinless state.
• Thus, God's work of salvation is the providence of restoration.
• The human Fall was undoubtedly the result of human mistakes.
• Nevertheless, God also assumes some respon sibi lity for the outcome because it was He who created human beings.
• God, the eternal subject partner, created us to live eternally because He wanted to share eternal joy with human beings as His object partners.
• Therefore, God saves fallen people and restores them to the original, pure state in which He initially created them.
• God's purpose of creation is the establishment of the Kingdom of Heaven, which in its totality is God's good object partner. The center of God's Kingdom on earth is to be human beings.
• Ever since the fall of the first human ancestors frustrated this Will, the primary goal of the providence of restoration has been nothing less than to rebuild the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
• Jesus told his disciples to pray, "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven" (Matt. 6:10.) His words testify that the goal of the providence of restoration is the establishment of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth.
We are talking about salvation. What is it?
Traditional View of Salvation
The traditional view of salvation was only able to show a model for spiritual salvation.
> It focused on Individual Salvation
> It had a Tendency to become selfish
> It does not care about others
> It does not think about God’s original purpose
That is why Father said as long as we focus on individual salvation is easy to become selfish. (People) need to understand the conecpt of total salvation.
“I believe in Jesus. Guaranteed, I can enter heaven. I don’t care about my brothers and sisters, or cousins, or whoever does not believe in Jesus will go to hell.”
If we think only of our own individual salvation, then we don’t think about the salvation of all people. That is why I love the concept of total salvation. How can we keep (maintain?) the concept of total salvation? We need to think that God is the parent of all humankind. Religion, color, nationality does not matter. We are children of God beyond any nationality or anything else(?).
If we truly believe that God is the God of all humankind, then everybody will think of total salvation more than individual salvation.
God has a very clear plan for individual, family salvation. One starts from individual salvation: how we can create unity between mind and body and let each human being control his body with his spirit and mind. Next is family salvation, then tribal, national, total world, and cosmic salvation – even Satan’s salvation. Finally the last stage is God’s liberation. It is a very clear plan.
(God’s plan for salvation) is our GPS. Without GPS we cannot go anywhere. GPS stands for Global Positioning System, but in the Principle it refers to God’s Plan for Salvation.
Today we are speaking about family salvation.
God’s Plan for Salvation
2. Family Salvation
> Family is the basic structure of the Kingdom of Heaven
> Kingdom of Heaven is based on the perfection of 4 Position Foundation
> KOH is based on the Perfection of the 4 Great Realms of Heart and 3 Great Kingships
> Messiah came to realize ideal family
(For) people who have received the Blessing, Heaven has already begun centered on their family. When we (establish) a family centered on the Blessing, we have already escaped (from) Satan’s dominion on the family level.
One of the incredible discoveries of Father was that basic salvation begins with the family, not with the individual at all. Salvation means completed salvation. That’s why if we only become individually perfect, we cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven. We can only enter the Kingdom of Heaven from the family level. That is why family salvation is the basis of salvation, not individual salvation.
Let’s study Father’s word.
We Should Dwell in Heaven As A Family
“The Unification Church’s viewpoint of salvation is not for a husband to go to heaven while his wife goes to hell. Both have to go to the Kingdom of Heaven together. It is not for us to enjoy heaven while our father and mother languish in hell. We should dwell in the Kingdom of Heaven with our sons and daughters and parents together.” (34:359, September 20, 1970)
The family is the smallest unit of the structure of the Kingdom of Heaven. That is why we can not enter Heaven before realizing a family.
Did we know this? Did Christians know this? Did other religious leaders(?) know this? Father discovered this for the first time: The family, not the individual, is the smallest unit of the structure of the Kingdom of Heaven. Father said when we enter the spiritual world, we will know the reality, (namely,) who really can enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
<34 358, 1970.9.20> “So far, religions have been pursuing individual salvation, but the Unification Church goes beyond that by pursuing family salvation. What we save is the family, and in going to heaven, we do not go there alone. The Unification Church’s view of salvation does not allow for the husband to go to heaven while the wife gets sent to hell; rather it promotes both of them going to heaven together. It does not support the view that parents may go to hell apart from their children in heaven; rather it advocates for both parents to be together in heaven with their children. Our church is of a different dimension from other religions because it teaches that the way for us to go to heaven is together with everyone, our beloved families and even our beloved tribes. Hence, it stresses the importance of the family, whereas established religions emphasize celibacy.” (34 358, 1970.9.20)
What we must clearly remember is that we can never enter the kingdom of heaven alone. It is said that we enter the kingdom of heaven in the family unit. It is said that only when the three generations become one and achieve the four great realms of heart and the three great kingships can they enter.
No religion talks about family salvation.
We are first generation. We (may) have already completed Cheonbo, but our children have not yet reached that standard. What can we do? We are not separate from our children. Three generations are all connected together no matter what. We need our family. How important family is!
I admire Father’s discovery of this aspect of the Principle centered on three generations, Three Great Kingships and the Four Great Realms of Heart. Just this simple principle is everything. It is an incredible discovery. How much do we appreciate the Divine Principle and True Parents for discovering this fundamental principle. No one else knows this so far.
TODAY’S YOUTH MINISTRY: We Are Taking Responsibility for Our Eternal Life
True Father, Who Knows God’s Han and Sorrow Very Well
1. We have no idea about God, yet the fact that True Father knows God’s han and sorrow better than anyone else is an amazing thing. True Father also knew how great God’s han is over losing Adam and Eve and that the ones who is to resolve that resentment was True Parents themselves. We Unificationists are happy to say that we have met True Parents, who knew and experienced God’s sorrow better than anyone else. There are many people in this world who are far more distinguished and greater than us, so how people who have many sins and shortcomings like us were able to meet the great True Parents is truly amazing.
One of the great things about True Father is that he knows about God’s bitter sorrow, han, and pain better than anyone else. Even existing saints and sages did not know about this at all.
No one talks about God’s sorrow, his han.
This is such an amazing thing. There was never a person who discovered God’s han, pain, and sorrow so far.
Jesus could not talk about it because he had not yet laid the foundation. There has never been a person who has discovered God’s han, pain and sorrow so far
How can we fulfill God’s Will without knowing His Will, sorrow, pain, and han? We Unificationists are happy to say that we have met True Parents, who knew and experienced God’s sorrow better than anyone else.
There are many people in this world who are far more distinguished and greater than we, so how people who have many sins and shortcomings like us were able to meet the great True Parents is truly amazing.
We met True Father and True Mother who discovered this amazing principle and God’s heart and sorrow.
The Meaning and Reason We Met True Parents
2. Therefore, we should know that there is God’s hope and will that we must fulfill in our being born on this earth and meeting True Parents. From that perspective, what we must do to become filial sons and daughters like True Parents must become our wish. When you have children, don’t you also tell them to become better filial sons and daughters than yourselves? Isn’t that the wish of parents? Is it their wish for their children to make a lot of money? Or for them to hold doctorate degrees? Or do they wish for their children to become the president? All of those things won’t matter once we die. They won’t matter once we shed the physical body. What use will money, honor, and power have after death? What power do we need besides true love?
I always emphasize this, but it is a truth that since we were born, we were born with God’s wish. Therefore, we need to know the truth that if we live centering on selfish desires while being unaware of God’s wish, that is what becomes God’s han and sorrow. Whether awake or asleep, day or night, we must always live, thinking about how to realize God’s wish. That is Hyojeong.
In a word, the first wish God has for us is for everyone to become filial sons and daughters who give all their filial hearts to Heaven. When we have children, don’t we also tell them to become better filial sons and daughters than ourselves?
Since parents of the secular world do not know God’s wish, they wish for their children to have great success in life, make a lot of money, gain honor, marry, and live well. However, the wish of original parents is not for children to make a lot of money, earn doctorate degrees, become the president or become famous. All of those things won’t matter once we die. They won’t matter once we shed the physical body.
What use will money, honor, and power have after death? What power do we need besides true love? The only thing that goes through the eternal world are true things. Only true things remain forever.
We Are the Substantial Form of God’s Wish
3. Inheriting True Parents’ heart and love and becoming true people while living in the physical world is our portion of responsibility and mission from God. Since we have nothing other than this, we cannot have other wishes. After listening to True Father’s words, there is nothing we can request God to grant for us. Instead of us requesting to God about our wishes, we are rather in the position of taking care of God’s wishes. In that sense, all people are substantial forms of God’s wish that must realize those wishes. What is our wish? Wishes for the flesh, money, knowledge, and honor are all unnecessary. If we had a wish, it is only to bring our spirit selves to fruition as filial sons and daughters before God. A grapevine only has the wish to bear fruits for its owner. Isn’t that so? Since we have heard God’s Word while living on this earth, what do you think?
If a grapevine had a wish, it would only be to bear fruits for its owner. If we say that the grapevine is our physical body, the grapes are our spiritual body, and the farmer is God, what is the final goal of the farmer? It is to reap fruits called grapes. That is the farmer’s wish.
Therefore, while the trees of our physical bodies are still alive on the earth, we have to bring God’s true love, true life, true lineage to fruition in our spiritual selves. This is the responsibility and mission we need to accomplish while living in the physical world. Other than this, we cannot have any other of our wishes.
After knowing this wish of God’s, there is nothing we can request God to grant for us. Instead of us requesting to God about our wishes, we are rather in the position of taking care of God’s wishes. In that sense, all people are substantial forms of God’s wish that must realize those wishes.
All people are substantial forms of God’s wish. I am a substantial form of God’s wish. We were born with God’s wish. That is why we are substantial forms of God’s wish. We cannot insist on our own opinion. We cannot go our own (way). We need to know that we are substantial forms of God’s wish. That is why we need to accomplish his wish. When we were born, it was with God’s wish. That is why our vision and goal and action is centering on God’s wish. That is the purpose of our life. Many people don’t know this.
What is our wish? Wishes for the flesh, money, knowledge, and honor are all unnecessary. If we had a wish, it is only to bring our spirit selves to fruition as filial sons and daughters before God.
We Are Taking Responsibility for Our Eternal Life
4. God’s wish is neither knowledge, philosophy, theology, certain authority, nor money. It is common sense that God’s wish is for us to become filial sons and daughters. It seems like we know all about that, but actually, we do not know. The period we spend in the physical world will all come to an end after some time passes. We will someday shed our physical body and leave it behind. Along with the extinction of the physical body, all the wealth, power, or honor that we had will also come to an end. Why do we spend a lifetime treasuring and clinging onto things that come to an end like that? What you need to know clearly is that we have taken responsibility for our eternal life. Do you really believe in this? All fallen people are uncertain about this point.
You can become people liberated from the realm of death when you make this point clear. Death originally has a divine meaning. Death is the divine process in which we enter the eternal world. That is why we must live truly until the time we shed our physical bodies. It means to live the short life given to us with tears, investing our whole heart and strength and offering sincere devotion. When we think about this, we cannot not be but busy.
God’s wish is neither knowledge, philosophy, theology, certain authority, nor money. It is common sense that God’s wish is for us to become filial sons and daughters. It seems like we know all about that, but actually, we do not know.
Our life cannot exceed 100 years. Our time on this physical world is so limited. The time we spend on this earth will all come to an end after some time passes. It is an absolute destiny that we will eventually shed our physical bodies and leave this world. Along with the extinction of the physical body, all the wealth, power, or honor that we had will also come to an end. Yet people of this world have lingering attachments and cling onto things that end in the physical world.
Our life is very short. I am already 66 years old. I cannot believe what I have done! You say, “I am still a young boy, 20 years old, 30 years old, 35 years old. I am telling you, time flies so quickly. We need to know its value. While we are on the earth, what should we focus on?
What we need to know clearly is that we have taken responsibility for our eternal life. All fallen people are uncertain about this point. We cannot risk our lives for and have lingering attachments for things that rot and disappear. People who realize this early on are those who were liberated from the realm of death.
Death originally has a divine meaning. Death is the divine process in which we enter the eternal world. That is why we must live truly until the time we shed our physical bodies. If we struggle to try to live sincerely but it still doesn’t work out, we must repent shedding many tears.
To really find sincerity, fallen human beings need a lot of tears. It means to live the short life given to us with tears, investing our whole heart and strength and offering sincere jeonseong devotion. When we think about this, we cannot not be but busy.
We are taking responsibility for our eternal life.
